Stay At Home Parents
The new trend in society is more mothers and fathers are opting to stay home and raise their children. 5.4 million Mothers stayed home with their children in 2004. This is a 16% increase over the last ten years. Fathers staying home to raise their children increased 2% over this same time span. These figures were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau. The troubling aspect of this new report; only 2.3% of Mothers living in households earning less than $10,000, stayed home with their children.
The report obviously shows that families that can afford it, opt to keep a parent home to raise their children, and most studies show that children, who spend more time with their parents, score better academically. To give our children a better advantage in life, government should make it easier for parents to stay home with their children. The quickest way to do this is through tax relief.
Following is how much a family earning $10,000 annually spends on current tax plans, and what they will spend on the three prevailing alternative plans.
Current Tax System $10,000 in earnings Approx. $3000 Tax
Sales Tax Only System - FairTax, H.R. 25 $10,000 in earnings Approx. $3500 Tax
Flat Tax Sales & Income - H.R. 1040 $10,000 in earnings Approx. $2000 Tax
Income Tax Only System - U-ACT $10,000 in earnings Approx. $1000 Tax
Obviously, U-ACT gives American parents the most flexibility to take care of their families, and give their children the best advantage that they possible can.
